Combining sentences helps improve the quality of the writing and encourages interesting word choices and transition words, and leads to longer, more complex sentences.
The objective for December is to use transition words and combine sentences. This month only has 3 weeks of booklets to accommodate Christmas holidays. The last week uses Christmas pictures to sequence events.

Use the excitement and engagement of the Christmas holiday season to engage your students in writing poetry. Your students will love this Christmas Poetry Unit Your first, second grade or third grade students will be writing poetry in time. This poetry unit will teach your students about acrostic poems, haiku poems, cinquain poems and diamanté poems. Your students will strengthen their knowledge of syllables and language while writing Christmas poems.

The students should find a word/sentence posted in your classroom and write it in the correct box on the recording sheet.
