Writing in Kindergarten is so important. “Emergent literacy research has shown us that children are not ruined by being allowed to write before they can read. Rather, they learn many important concepts and develop the confidence that they can write” (Cunningham, 1995, p. 25).

Shared reading of these seasonal alphabet charts can be done in whole groups, small groups or centers.  Different ways to read the charts are:  · Read the tall lowercase letters  · Read the vowels  · Read the boxes with people  · Read the boxes with places

· Make copies of the blank chart and laminate it. At a center have the students use dry erase markers and fill in the chart with pictures and/or words.
· Make copies of the black and white versions of the charts. At a center students outline the boxes of tall lowercase letters green, boxes with vowels red; boxes with people blue, etc. (see headers)
· Make copies of the alphabet charts that don’t have letters. Students use magnetic letters and put the correct letter in each box.

Halloween and October Resources for Pre-K and Kinder

October is here and you know what that means! Tons of thoughts of ghosts, goblins and fun. Here are a few October products you can use with your Pre-k or kindergarten class.

There are 8 different word families included (at, an, ake, ing, og, ug, ar, op). Each onset and rime pair and the corresponding pictures are printed on pieces of candy corn.Your students will have FUN practicing addition facts 1-10 with these candy corn puzzles and word problems. Print, laminate and cut the candy cards apart. Students will see there are many ways to make a sum of 10.

This resource has both reading and math center activities and worksheets.

READING:


There are 8 different word families included (at, an, ake, ing, og, ug, ar, op). Each onset and rime pair and the corresponding pictures are printed on pieces of candy corn.

Simply print and laminate the pages, and cut the pieces of candy corn into 3 parts. Students build the word and match the picture with the word.

Students can make a crown with onset and rimes to wear during class. Then they complete the included worksheets.

MATH:


Your students will have FUN practicing addition facts 1-10 with these candy corn puzzles and word problems. Print, laminate and cut the candy cards apart. Students will see there are many ways to make a sum of 10.

This activity is great as a small group math lesson or as a center activity. We have included a self-check page so your kids can work independently and worksheets for them to complete.

For the word problems, the students read the problem, draw a picture to go with it, write the 2 numbers and the addition statement.

  • Before reading a book point out the title of the book, the front cover, and the back cover.
  • Place 3 objects in order from longest to shortest.

  • Draw 5 pumpkins with 2 leaves on each.
  • Give your child a pile of dry beans. Ask him to count out a set of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
